A. J. VINCOLISI

Biography

       A. J. (Jim) Vincolisi was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947 and began photographing scenes of his native city in his early teens. He attended the University of Illinois and has worked as a photo lab technician in both color and black and white formats.

In 1969, he moved to Los Angeles where he continued to work as a lab tech through the ‘70s and served in the National Guard as a photographer with the 240th Signal Corps.  He enhanced his knowledge of photography and expanded his photographic technique with classes offered at Santa Monica City College, where he also began working with large format cameras. In 1999 he and his wife moved to the Central Coast and he began photographing full-time with both medium and large format cameras. He has now converted to digital capture and printing.

He believes the art of photography involves both the taking of the image and the processing and printing of that image. He applies that philosophy by processing and printing his own images, thus controlling the quality of the final print at every stage.

He is a member of the Central Coast f11 Photography Group, the North County Image Makers, the San Luis Obispo Photo Society and was asked to judge the photo competition at California’s Mid State Fair in 2001 and 2002. His award winning photography often captures scenes of California’s exquisite Central Coast.

He and his wife (Pat Bennett) have operated the B-W Gallery from their home since March of 2006.
