Gary is an editorial / travel photographer and book producer. He has worked in 47 countries and holds both American and Irish passports.
Before turning his efforts entirely to photography in 1994, he had a career as a sculptor that allowed him to do large scale commissions in numerous countries. In 1987 he photographed two climbing expeditions in the Himalayas. In 1992 He photographed the Botanical Survey Project on Baffin Island, in Nunavutin the Canadian Arctic and in 1994 documented World Heritage Sites for UNESCO in Vietnam. While a Resident Artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2005, he photographed Architecture in Danger of Disappearing in Italy, for The World Monuments Fund.
His work has been exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC, the Oakland Museum in California and is in the collection of La Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Parisand theBibliothèque Nationale de France.
In 2007 his work was exhibited in Atlántica Colectivas, in the Canary Islands. And in 2008 his work was included in the Photographic Biennial in Nancy, France, and in Image08, Vevey, Switzerland. His images of Egypt were published inThe Best of Photography 2009. His 2014 solo exhibition ”Seeing / Thinking / Living” was held at theSan Luis Obispo Museum of Art in California.
